  • Loan times apply to standard book loans.  Inter-Library Loan and other items are subject to different circulation policies (see below).

How Automatic Renewal Works

After your initial loan period, items will automatically renew every 3 days until they reach the maximum number of renewals. If you receive an email notification saying your item(s) are now due, you have either reached your renewal limit or another patron has placed a hold on that item.

You will have one week from the day you received the initial email notification to return the item(s) without fine penalty.  Exceptions to this rule are items with loan times less than a week (see below).

Policies for Specific Items

All patrons receive the same loans for these items:

The following do not circulate:

  • LP records
  • Tape media (cassettes, tape reels, etc.)

You can avoid fines and fees by returning library materials on-time.

You can check your account balance from the My Account button on the Library homepage.

If your fines exceed your Max Account Balance:

  • your Library privileges will be restricted: your loans will not renew, and you will not be able to place hold requests or check out items
  • you may be blocked from registering for classes
  • your graduation status may be delayed
  • your transcript, certificate, or diploma may be withheld

Fines can be paid at the Circulation Desk with cash or check.  Please make checks payable to "Southern Seminary" and write "Library Fines" in the memo line.

If you prefer to mail payment, please include a note with your name and student ID number to ensure that your account is properly credited.  Mail it along with your payment to:

Lost Items

If you lose an item, you will be charged the replacement cost or $50 (whichever is greater) in addition to a processing fee of $20 per item.

Library notifications are sent via email. Your email address is inherited from your institutional account. Students and employees are required to regularly check their assigned email accounts, per SBTS policies.

Please verify your email address on your Library account to avoid fines.  If you wish to receive notifications at a different address, please forward email from your SBTS account. If you no longer have access to your SBTS-issued email account and would like to change where your notifications are sent, please submit your request through Ask-a-Librarian.

Returning Borrowed Items

Items may be returned through the outside book-drop located to the left of the Library main entrance or at the Circulation Desk inside the Library.
